[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied

Hi all,

This is my first post and I apologize in advance if it is in the wrong place.

I am having an issue whereby a user can download a spreadsheet from our sharepoint site however when they try to refresh the data they receive the following error message:

[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied

However, if I make the user account a local administrator of their client machine the error message does not appear and the spreadsheet updates as expected.

This leads me to think that it is not an issue with the SQL Server side of things but perhaps an issue with permissions on the client machine.

Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

Hi,

As far as I know, if we get the Access denied error, it most probably caused by the permission. Please use the user account to connect the SQL database directly, if we still get the similar error, it shows this SQL database needs administrator permission to connect, thus, try to add the user account to local administrator group.

Hope it's helpful.
